Motherhood Looks Good On You (Full Band Version)
You may have heard me say that, for about 10 or 11 years, I stepped away from music almost entirely. It was one of those things that happened so slowly that I didn’t even realize that it was happening. Suddenly, I looked up and realized that I hadn’t played guitar for a REALLY long time, and I hadn’t been singing either – let alone the last time that I’d played a show. It was a long 10 or 11 years. But some really amazing things happened during that time. I got married. My wife and I moved from San Diego to Denver. And we had our first son, Quinn. Quinn was born just before the pandemic shut the world down, and I made it my mission to make sure that my wife got the Mother’s Day that she deserved, even though we were limited in what we could do. She had shared with me that she was concerned that the pandemic might steal away her first Mother’s Day like it had stolen so many of the other things we had wanted to do during those months. So I made it my point to not let that happen. I was going to get happy tears no matter what I had to do. Fortunately, what I had to do came pretty naturally to me. So I wrote Motherhood Looks Good On You. BUT it had been a long time since I had written a song, so I had to go back to basics. I outlined the story that I wanted to tell and started putting a melody to it and eventually got it all pulled together. It was such a fun experience and I loved it. Once the song was finished, I put together a little video montage to play with the song. The challenge was that since it had been only a couple of months since Quinn was born, there wasn’t a whole lot of footage or pictures yet, so I had to get creative...but I did it! And yes, I got the happy tears :). At first, I thought that it was just going to be a one-off songwriting project, but the bug bit me again, and suddenly new ideas started flowing. So when I started recording the full band versions of some of my songs, I knew that this had to be one of them. I’m so stoked with the way that it came out, and I can’t wait for you to hear it!
